Sol-gel dip Coating Synthesis and Physical Properties of ZnO:Al Thin Films

Abstract :

In this study, pure and Al-doped ZnO (AZO) nanostructured thin films were successfully synthesized by sol-gel dip-coating process. The effects of Al dopant on the crystalline structure and orientation of the AZO films were extensively investigated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed that the AZO films have a hexagonal wurtzite structure with preferential orientation along the (002) plane with c-axis perpendicular to the substrate surface. From scanning electron micrograph (SEM) uniform distribution of closely-packed arrangement of grains and spherical shaped nanograins was observed. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) shows that the prepared AZO samples exhibit daisy-like microstructures with an average diameter of 1 ?m. The optical band gap value was found to slightly increase with Al content from 3.22 eV to 3.25 eV.
