Kinetic Description of a two-stream Free Electron Laser with Thermal Electron Beams

Abstract :

Using a kinetic approach, the dispersion relation (DR) of a two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a helical wiggler pump is obtained. By linearizing Maxwell and Velasov equations DR which shows coupling of all modes is derived. Momentum spread take into account with considering water-bag distribution function for electrons. Band widths of FEL and two-stream FEL resonances have shown and effects of momentum spread have noticed with numerical solutions of DR. The result shows that the growth rate is decreased when momentum spread is considered.
